Music Festival Schedule (February 17 – 18, 2023)
Rehearsal times include multiple activities at the conductor’s discretion to balance rehearsal goals with student endurance. In addition to rehearsing festival music, holding sectionals, or leading music games, HS ensembles will break every 90 minutes and MS ensembles will break every 60 minutes.
Friday, February 17, 2023Â
- 8:00 – 8:30 AM, Check-In at ensemble rehearsal venues
- MS & HS Honor Choirs: Sanborn Hall Lobby
- MS Honor Band: Hamilton Williams Campus Center Lobby
- HS Honor Band: University Hall Lobby
-  8:30 AM – 12:00 PM, Ensembles Rehearsals. The HS Band begins with seating auditions (8:30 – 9:30 AM) prior to a 10 AM rehearsal start.
NOTE: To preserve vocal health, the MS Choir will begin their day with a presentation on “Musical Meaning in Recent Disney Movie Scores” (Moana, Encanto) provided by our department chair, Dr. Frank Chiou. MS Choir rehearsals start at 10 AM.- MS Choir: Jemison Auditorium (Sanborn Hall)

- HS Band: Gray Chapel & audition rooms (UNIV)
- 11:30 AM – 12:00 PM, Lunch provided (MS ensembles)
- 12:15 PM – 12:45 PM, Lunch provided (HS ensembles)
- 1:00 PM – 5:30 PM, rehearsals and sectionals with breaks and activities at conductor’s discretion
- 5:45 – 6:30 PM, Dinner provided
- 7:00 PM – 7:55 PM, Host concert in Gray Chapel (UNIV) performed by the OWU Symphonic Wind Ensemble and OWU Choral Arts Society

- Extra Lunch Option:
- If you signed your student up for the extra lunch, choir students will receive lunch in Presser (Sanborn Hall) and band students will receive lunch in Merrick Banquet Hall.Â
- Choir students in the extra lunch will need a ride from Sanborn Hall to University Hall by 12:45 PM. An OWU shuttle van is available to transport choir students to University Hall if they’re unable to be picked up by 12:45 (it’s approximately 1 mile from Sanborn to UNIV).Â
- If you did not sign up your student for the extra lunch:
- A teacher or parent needs to pick up their student from their rehearsal venue 12:00 PM to take them to lunch.
- Extra Lunch Option:
- 1:30 PM, Report to Gray Chapel assigned seating in University Hall
- 2:00 PM, MS & HS Choirs Grand Finale Concert in Gray Chapel (UNIV)

Timeline to the 2023 OWU Music Festival
December 2, 2022
- Music teacher nominations are due online by Friday, 12/2/22.
December 15, 2022
- Teachers will be notified of acceptance via email to allow them to personally inform their students of acceptance.
- Festival concert music parts for all ensembles will be shared with music teachers for practice
December 16, 2022
- *All teachers, parents, and students on the final ensemble rosters will receive information about permission forms, payment, and practice part PDFs. You can also find this information by clicking on the “2023 OWUMF Roster Announcement” on the festival website homepage.
- High School Honor Band schedule and instructions for part assignment auditions will be announced. Live auditions with OWU music staff will be held on the morning of the music festival (Friday, Feb. 17, 2023, 8:30 – 9:30 AM in University Hall) for HS Honor Band members only.
*Parents and students will be notified by email about all music festival information. However, due to the inconsistency of some email addresses, Music Teachers will be the primary point of contact for all Music Festival communication.
January 6, 2023
- Parents and Guardians: verify your child’s participation by completing the 2023 confirmation form for t-shirt size, media permission, any medical needs, and an optional extra lunch order on Saturday. Failure to complete the confirmation form by this date may cause a student to lose their spot in the festival.
January 20, 2023
- All fees due by Friday, 1/20/23 (online payment or postmarked check must be sent by this date). If fees are covered by the school or booster organization, parents may indicate this on the confirmation form. Failure to pay for a student by this date disqualify a student from participation.
January 27, 2023
- An official letter of excused absence will be distributed by January 27, 2023 to all parents and directors to verify a student’s participation in the OWU Music Festival for their school.
