Zoology Student Board’s February Reading List

Zoology board Reading list! Welcome to the first reading list of the new semester!

Bones; Roy Meal, MD
Who would think that a subject as dry as bones would be filled with so much life! This book describes in easily understood detail the biology of living bone in the first half. From how it grows and heals to how doctors have learned to aid it; this section has everything you’ve ever wanted to know about bone biology.
The second half of the book shifts and describes the cultural perspective on bone. This section is perfect for anyone interested in anthropology.
BONUS: there are many amazing early science diagrams from before the human skeleton was understood!

Proofiness; Charles Seife
This book is hyper-relevant in today’s informational climate. It focuses on statistics and how they can be weaponized to deceive. This can be done intentionally or accidentally; the results are dangerous.
The many modes of mathematical deception are investigated and tactics are taught so that you can recognize and disabuse them.

What is Real? Adam Becker
This book opens your eyes to the sheer interpretive nature of even the purest of sciences. It is more about that development of quantum mechanics than quantum mechanics itself. This leads to a lot of interesting questions about the true nature of such lofty principles.
The dynamics between scientists and the leading philosophies of the era in which quantum mechanics were developed are explained. The impact of these factors on the field are explored up until the present.
