The September 2020 You are OWU award recipients are listed below with information shared by their nominators! Congratulations!
Mike Brockfield, Campus Store Manager
Mike’s nominator shared, “He is extremely thoughtful of his fellow campus colleagues, taking into consideration how he can help others in his processes or decision-making no matter how large or small. As covid hit, Mike coordinated efforts with book return communications and collections, serving as the point person for drop offs to minimize the number of staff physically required on campus during such a precarious time even when he was essentially a department of 1.”
Martine Stephens, Director of Writing Center and Coordinator of Tutoring
Martine’s nominator explained, “She realized there were some things that needed to be said – and she said them! In a post, Martine spoke many truths about how hard and unpredictable life had been, how easy it was to cast blame and criticism without stopping to consider what everyone was going through, and – most importantly – how important it was to consider the amazing and remarkable things we had jointly accomplished. Martine spoke at length about the importance of gratitude, and I am nominating her because I am grateful she acted for our greater good.”
Anna DuSaire, Hope Lopez, Mukami Wamalwa, Abby Carlson, and Autumn Ford – students
The students’ nominators said, “Each of these nominees has seen things at OWU that they want to fix and instead of discussing it and then dropping it. They have actively tried to fix it, creating a bias-related incident report, running and being elected for Vice President of WCSA, running for senate spots in WCSA, along with actively speaking up in the community and meeting with Rock Jones. They have spoken out powerfully against injustice and for positive change on our campus and in our country.”
