Tornado Safety Information

With spring’s unstable weather, please take time to review basic tornado safety information. Ohio Wesleyan will send out an OWU Alert emergency message only in the event of a tornado warning when immediate action is required. The University will not send an OWU Alert for a tornado watch, which indicates favorable conditions but no detected tornadic activity.

Also, please note the outdoor warning siren protocol. During a tornado warning, sirens will sound for three minutes, repeating every 10 minutes, until the warning expires. There is no all-clear signal.

During a tornado warning, the safest place to shelter is in a basement or windowless interior room on the lowest level of a building. Keep all windows and doors closed to prevent injury from flying debris.
