This Week! Safety Town Needs Volunteers @ Willis

It’s an SOS for Safety Town! Organizers need volunteers to help from noon to 3:30 p.m. today through Friday, June 12-16 (all or part).

Safety Town provides children going into kindergarten or first grade with lessons including Bike, Pedestrian, Fire, Water, Booster Seats, 911, Handwashing, Poison, Stranger Awareness, and Officer Friendly.  The children also ride tricycles on “Safety Town” (a small town in the gym) to learn about being safe on streets and sidewalks.

Safety Town is held nearby at the Willis Education Center, 74 W. William St.

During Safety Town, the 50 children will be split into 4 groups. Each group will rotate around each of the four daily lessons. Workers and volunteers help to manage the kids’ transition between the 4 locations in the school, guide them to restroom/water breaks, and help them pay attention to the lesson.

If you can help, please contact Chase Waits, director of communications & community engagement for the
Delaware County Board of Developmental Disabilities, by email at chase.waits@dcbdd.org or by call/text at 740-272-8679. Thank you!
