Tech Tip of the Week: How and When to Change Your Password

Is your password “password”? Your last name? Or maybe the street you grew up on? If it is then it’s time to change it. In fact, even if your password is 20 characters long and random, it’s still a good idea to change it frequently.

Every 90 days is what we recommend. It’s a quick and simple process. Let’s get to it!

1. Go to http://password.owu.edu.

2. You’ll be prompted to enter your username (the first part of your OWU email) and your password to access the page.
3. You should see a form on the right. Enter your current password along with your new password. (Passwords must be at least 6 characters in length and can only contain letters, numbers, or underscores.)
4. Verify your new password by typing it again, click the Submit button and you’re done!

Oh, and one more thing: please try not to use an old password for at least a year before bringing it back into circulation.
