The Department of Journalism & Communication offers an upper-level Health Communication (COMM 300 10) course during the Spring 2020 semester that fulfills them all. The course examines the intersection of race, gender and health by looking at the role of interpersonal and mass mediated communication in Black women’s health. Topics include: health disparities, socio-cultural determinants of health, African colonialism and slavery, traditional medicine, HIV/AIDS, cervical cancer/HPV, and mass/interpersonal communication health campaigns targeted at Black women in the USA and Southern Africa.
