Beginning July 20, crews will be working to install ground-mounted solar panels as part of OWU’s solar energy initiative. The work should continue for just over a month. Wildflower gardens will be planted under the ground arrays, and the areas will be fenced for safety.
In the fall, crews will begin installing carport canopies in 7 parking lots across campus. When the 10,400+ solar panels begin producing energy in fall 2027, they are projected to produce 8.2 million kilowatt-hours of clean energy annually, enabling OWU to reduce its carbon emissions from electrical power consumption by approximately 82%.
