Flowers for Algernon is a one act show I will be directing as my senior theatre project and I am looking for other OWU students to participate!
Flowers for Algernon is a one act play that follows Charlie Gordon, a non neurotypical individual, and the strange interweaving of Charlie’s life with that of Algernon, a lab mouse. Experimental surgery has been performed on Algernon increasing his intelligence fourfold. The operation is tried on Charlie, who rapidly changes from an IQ of 68 to a genius level, far more intelligent than Charlie’s teacher or the doctors who created the operating technique. As Charlie approaches the peak of brilliance, Algernon shows frightening symptoms of regression. . This show is poignant, romantic, funny, and tragic, but with hope of Charlie’s indomitable spirit and kindness, we can all learn to love who we are.
Auditions will be held September 3rd from 3:30-7:00 PM in room 008 in Chappelear Drama Center. Sign ups will be posted on the callboard outside of the office in the theater.
For the audition, please prepare a short, dramatic monologue. It does not need to be memorized.. You will find audition forms next to the sign ups, please fill that out before the audition.
No previous experience is necessary, so I encourage everyone that is interested to come on by and audition!
