This federal holiday commemorates the signing of the U.S. Constitution on Sept. 17, 1787. As we all learned in high school, the Constitution defines the structure of our federal government. It is one of the most important political charters in history. The Constitution was enacted by the people for the benefit of the people. It is up to the people to preserve, protect, and defend it.
