Public Safety Staff Complete Crisis Intervention Team Training

Public Safety Officer Ric Arner and Director of Public Safety Sean Bolender completed Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training on April 22, 2022. CIT is a 40-hour intensive training and involves practical techniques for de-escalating crises. Class participants learn about central Ohio mental health resources and different ways of approaching individuals experiencing mental health crises.

Goals of CIT training include:
* Reducing the trauma that individuals experience during mental health crises, which contributes to a more successful long-term recovery.
* Increasing connections to effective and timely mental health services for people in mental health crises.
* Improving the safety of everyone involved in a law enforcement-related encounter.

Ric and Sean join the majority of Public Safety (PS) officers already training in CIT. The training is required of all Delaware City Police Department officers as well. Want to know whether a PS officer is trained when you see them on campus? When we’re in our uniform, look for a blue pin that says “CIT” or just ask!
