Breast cancer is the second most common cancer in women, and there is a 1 in 8 chance that a woman will develop breast cancer in her lifetime. While it is rare for women under 40 to get breast cancer, proactive prevention can start earlier. If you’re an average risk and below 40, diet and exercise are among the most important measures to take. Women over 40 should speak with their doctor about their specific risk factors and preventive measures. Preventive and mammogram screenings are covered at 100% by most insurance providers. Early detection of breast cancer increases the survival rate exponentially. All women should speak to their doctor about their risk factors and scheduling preventive care and screenings.
