ENVS 499: Scientific Communication: TR 2:40 – 4 p.m., SCSC Room 211
If you were asked to draw a scientist, who would you draw? What happens when critical issues—like climate change or public health—aren’t communicated clearly to the public? At its best, science communication can close the gap between scientists and general audiences on the topics that matter most. At its worst, science communication can lead to confusion or frustration and can feed into growing societal distrust of science and journalism. In this hands-on course, you’ll learn how to translate complex scientific topics into stories that have the potential to reach and resonate with today’s audiences. Along the way, we’ll explore the powerful role media and technology play in bridging the gap between experts and the public.
