On Monday, April 26 from 6-8pm, HOLD and CAH will host a joint house project called “Cherokee Language and Art”
This project will educate students about the history and current state of the Cherokee language, with an engaging artistic activity! There will be a presentation of the short (9 minute) documentary “Language is Everything: The Story of Durbin Feeling, Cherokee Linguist”, followed by a discussion of the Cherokee syllabary and efforts to maintain the Cherokee language today. Then, participants will be able to paint Cherokee words on small clay pots using printed syllabary guides. Everyone who registers will receive a clay pot and a plant (plants are first come, first serve).
The presentation will begin in Corns 312 at 6pm. The painting will take place afterwards in the tent outside of Corns.
