The Melvin Van Peebles: Black Arts Symposium will start on Thursday, March 30, and be hosted at OWU on Friday, March 31, and Saturday, April 1. The Symposium will showcase films created or influenced by Melvin Van Peebles, include food banquets and a food truck night, provide academic discourse on Peebles’ contributions to BIPOC art, support local Black artists like Marshall L. Shorts Jr. and DJ O Sharp, and have keynote speakers on campus like Simone Drake, Wil Haygood, and Jasmine Guy! This is a ticketed event, but everyone is invited to the Friday night free showing of “Watermelon Man” and to enjoy the food trucks!
