The House of Linguistic Diversity (the blue SLU) will be hosting a week of house projects next week, May 4-8, to engage the OWU community in international languages and cultures! Keep an eye on the OWU Daily for more reminders and details.
On Mon May 3, three of our housemates Eva, Alyssa, and Navami will present “Learn Korean with K-Pop”! Come learn some Korean words used commonly in popular Korean music. We will have a Zoom presentation with the words and examples from songs. Link to Zoom: https://owu-edu.zoom.us/j/97789680024?pwd=QkpDVXhacytiSHZwQnQvODVTK2N6Zz09
On Tues May 4, our housemate Sana will be tabling in HamWil from 12-1pm, raising awareness about anti-Asian speech. She invites you to come and write down things you often hear said or say about South Asian students, but shouldn’t.
On Wed May 5, Lauren will present their project titled: DIY Pronoun Pins and Pronoun Diversity. Come learn about the diversity of pronouns across different languages and make your own pronoun pins! On the HOLD porch 11:30-1pm.
On Thursday May 6, our moderator Logan will host a HOLD tradition, Culture Café! Come to the amphitheater for an evening of music, poetry, dance, and whatever else you bring to the open mic!
On Fri May 7, Camy will perform one of Ophelia’s monologues from Heiner Muller’s Hamletmachine, which she has translated into French. Come see her perform and join a conversation about cultural fascinations with Shakespeare’s Ophelia and what they have to say about the notions of femininity, innocence, and death. At HOLD, 7pm.
On Sat May 8, Sam will host a presentation at HOLD, exploring the art of translation through historic and popular music.
