Our eyes are so important, yet their health often gets overlooked. Here are some tips on how to keep your eyes healthy as a student!
1) As students, we spend so much time staring at our computer, whether reading a textbook, writing an essay or watching Netflix. This can take a toll on our eyes! The American Academy of Ophthalmology recommends the 20-20-20 rule- for every 20 minutes looking at a screen, look at a point 20 feet away for 20 seconds.
2) Take out your contacts before bed. It can be tempting just to fall into bed, but be sure to remove your contacts first. Leaving them in increases the risk of an eye infection.
3) Don’t mix used and new contact solution and replace the lens case every three months.
4) Don’t share makeup, even if your roommate has the best eyeliner. Sharing makeup can lead to the spread of diseases like pink eye.
5) Schedule checkups! Your eyes are important, so treat them right!
