Former Faculty Member George Mass Passes Away

We are sad to share that Dr. George Mass, former psychology faculty, passed away peacefully Nov. 18. He was 81.

According to his death notice:

Dr. Mass was born in Romania and emigrated with his mother to Rochester, NY, in 1951. He graduated from Gettysburg College and earned his Ph.D. in psychology from The Ohio State University. He taught psychology at Ohio Wesleyan (from 1970-1977) and Ohio State and had a private practice in Columbus. Dr. Mass also worked with veterans, police, and fire personnel throughout Ohio before retiring to Sarasota County, Florida.

He is survived by his wife, Leslie (former director of OWU’s Early Childhood Center); two daughters, Amy and Meg; and grandson, Nemo.

After experiencing the pain of war and resettlement, Dr. Mass dedicated himself to easing the suffering of others, both in his private practice and through humanitarian work. His courage and compassion will be deeply missed.

In lieu of flowers, he can be honored with donations to CARE.org.

Our sincere condolences to Leslie, Amy, Meg, and Nemo, and all who knew and loved George.
