Fans for Friends Donation Program Seeks New Box Fans

The Delaware County Emergency Management Agency (EMA), in collaboration with People in Need (PIN) of Delaware County, is seeking donations of new box fans this summer to keep those without air-conditioning from living in dangerous temperatures.

Donations may be dropped off at any Delaware County EMS or fire station, including at 99 S. Liberty St. — adjacent to the OWU campus — as well as all Delaware County District Library branches and the PIN office at 138 Johnson Drive (during normal business hours).

As the EMA shares: “Extreme heat is the #1 cause of weather-related deaths in the US each year, and we want to do anything we can to prevent that from occurring here in Delaware County.” The EMA also encourages everyone to:

  • Stay hydrated throughout the day – do not wait until you’re thirsty to replace fluids.
  • If you must be outside, wear lightweight clothing and a wide-brimmed hat and limit your exposure to the heat.
  • If you work outside, hydration is a MUST, and be sure to take advantage of the shade when possible.
  • Review signs of Heat Exhaustion and Heat Stroke – look for those signs in yourself or those around you.
  • Please check on elderly family and neighbors.
  • Don’t forget pets and livestock – ensure plenty of drinking water and a place to escape the sun.

For more information, call the Delaware County EMA at (740) 833-2180. Thank you for your help.
