The Delaware Public Health District’s Project DAWN program is partnering with Drug-Free Delaware, The Strand Theatre, and Ohio Wesleyan to host an Overdose Awareness event on the JAYwalk from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 28 in recognition of Overdose Awareness Day (OAD).
Overdose Awareness Day is an annual event to remember those lost to overdose, reduce stigma, and advocate for change to end overdose. The JAYwalk event will feature FREE resources about recovery and overdose awareness, FREE naloxone and fentanyl test strips, and FREE Kona Ice snow cones for the first 200 students who come by.
Additionally, Delaware Public Health District is partnering with Ohio Wesleyan and The Strand Theatre & Cultural Arts Association to host a movie about recovery on the night of Aug. 28.
The movie “Beautiful Boy” will be shown at The Strand Theatre (about a 5-minute walk from campus) at a discounted price of $10 for OWU students. This purchase includes a ticket to see the movie, a small drink, and a small popcorn! Doors will open at 6:30 p.m., and the movie will start at 7 p.m.
DPHD’s Project DAWN intern and OWU student Aaron Gonzales will be on site to share resources and provide information about recovery and harm reduction efforts available in Delaware County.
Delaware Public Health District hopes to see OWU students at both events! Don’t forget to bring your OWU student ID to be eligible for this special movie event!
