Join us for a lecture titled “Prospects for North Korea’s Denuclearization” on April 4 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the Bayley Room. Mark Tokola, Vice President of the Korea Economic Institute of America, Washington, D.C., is the guest lecturer.
On June 12, 2018, President Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un agreed during their Singapore Summit to denuclearize the Korean Peninsula, a long-standing U.S. foreign policy objective. However, little progress has been made since then and the February 27-28, 2019, Hanoi Summit ended with no agreement on next steps. Mark Tokola will discuss the historical background and context for the two summits, the overall state of the Korean Peninsula and prospects for further diplomacy. Specifically, he will question whether a narrow agreement on sanctions relief for denuclearization will solve the six decades-old “Korean Question.”
