April 28 Denim Day and Patches Fundraiser for Peace Over Violence

Join us in wearing denim on April 28 when millions of people across the world will wear jeans with a purpose, support survivors, and educate themselves and others about all forms of sexual violence.

Circle K will be selling denim patches with messages of support for $1 on Wednesday April 28 from 10am-2pm in the Hamwil Atrium. All proceeds will go to Peace over Violence, a sexual and domestic violence, intimate partner stalking, child abuse and youth violence prevention center headquartered in Los Angeles.

Denim Day is a campaign on a Wednesday in April in honor of Sexual Assault Awareness Month. The campaign began after a ruling by the Italian Supreme Court where a rape conviction was overturned because the justices felt that since the victim was wearing tight jeans she must have helped the person who raped her remove her jeans, thereby implying consent. The following day, the women in the Italian Parliament came to work wearing jeans in solidarity with the victim. Since then, what started as a local campaign to bring awareness to victim blaming and destructive myths that surround sexual violence has grown into a movement.
