French Movie Showing!

French Club is showing Le Scapahdre et Le Papillon (with English subtitles!) on Oct. 22 at 7 pm in University Hall Room 213.
Here is a description:
At 43, Jean-Dominique Bauby, the rakishly successful and charismatic editor in chief of French Elle was a man defined by his passion for life. On December 1995, he suffered a massive stroke and his brain stem was rendered inactive. In these few bewildering moments, his life was forever changed. After lapsing into a coma, he awoke 20 days later to find himself the victim of a rare locked-in syndrome – mentally alert but permanently deprived of movement and speech.
Refusing to accept his fate, Bauby determined to escape the paralysis of his diving bell and free the butterflies of his dreams and imagination. The only way he could express his frustration, however, was by moving his left eye. These movements and blinking a code representing letters of the alphabet became his sole means of communication. (Based on a true story.)

We will also be showing Peau D’âne on Nov. 19 at 7 pm in University 213.
Here is a description of Peau D’âne:
In a magical, faraway land, a widower king (Jean Marais) decrees that he will wed his daughter, the princess (Catherine Deneuve) because she’s the only woman able to match his former queen’s beauty. To dodge the incestuous union, the princess — with the help of a magical fairy (Delphine Seyrig) — disguises herself as a donkey and escapes to a neighboring kingdom. There, the donkey-skinned maiden encounters a handsome prince (Jacques Perrin) who falls in love with her.
