Did you know that Georges Seurat’s 1884 pointing, “A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte,” has been translated into topiaries on 9 acres in downtown Columbus?
According to a recent Columbus Dispatch article, the painting “takes form in life-size — and sometimes bigger-than-life — topiaries” in the Old Deaf School Park, 480 E. Town St., located behind the Columbus Metropolitan Library’s Main Library. The Topiary Garden is open sunup to sundown.
According to the article, the Topiary Garden was created by sculptor James Mason and his then-wife, Elaine Mason, an arts administrator, who began work in 1989. It remains the world’s only topiary representation of a painting.
