The Flu(eww) – Health Tip

8The flu has reached OWU with its first diagnosis, and the Health center wants all students to be cautious. The flu has a lot of symptoms that come with it, none of which are enjoyable. These symptoms include: cough, sore throat, fever, runny or stuffy nose, muscle aches, headaches, fatigue, and some people may have vomiting and diarrhea.

The single best way to prevent the flu is to get a yearly flu vaccine. These are free for students at the health center, just call to set up a quick appointment. Flu vaccination can reduce flu illnesses, doctors’ visits, and missed work and school due to flu, as well as prevent flu-related hospitalizations. Also, help stop the spread of the flu by covering your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze and wash your hands often with soap and water (especially before eating). It is also a great idea to carry around hand sanitizer. During flu season it’s best to avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth. Germs spread very easily this way. Lastly, clean and disinfect surfaces and objects that may be contaminated with germs like flu, aka your dorm room.

Please take advantage of the free flu shots!! We all think that the flu won’t be that bad or somehow we’ll dodge it because we’re invincible. Trust me though, nothing will humble you faster than the flu.

To receive the vaccination just call (740) 368-3160 or email health@owu.edu to reserve an appointment with a nurse.
