DEADLINE Feb. 21 – Register for Museum Bird Study Skin Prep Workshop on Feb. 23

Duquesne professor Brady Porter (OWU ’90) and Greg Watkins-Colwell (OWU ’91), Herpetology and Ichthyology Collections Manager at the Yale Peabody Museum of Natural History, will be visiting OWU this Sat., Feb. 23 to teach a bird study skin preparation workshop beginning at 9 a.m. in SCSC, Room 322. Lunch will be provided. You will finish in early to mid-afternoon.

Following the workshop, there will be an early pizza supper (time to be determined by workshop participants) and a short slide show. If you are interested in a career involving natural history museums, please stay or return to chat with our visitors.

The birds are from our frozen collection (window strike or traffic deaths, mainly); we have federal and state permits allowing us to accept and keep such birds.

If you are a student, enjoy the process and are willing to spend some time on Friday afternoons this semester perfecting your skills with our current student curators, this could lead to paid employment in OWU’s Museum of Zoology in the fall.

Please register by emailing Lisa Tabak, lmtabak@owu.edu, by noon on Thurs., Feb. 21 so that adequate materials and food may be prepared for you. There is no charge for this event.
