Being part of an organization like a university, students are at risk of so-called “phishing messages.” What are they? How do you identify them? Those are the topics of this week’s Tech Tip!
Phishing scams are fraudulent emails, phone calls or text messages that try to entice you to divulge private information. Be skeptical if an email contains any of the following:
– Hyperlinks within emails.
– Spelling errors in the email address or a different email than the providers other emails.
– Generic references to yourself like “Hello User.”
– Emails that instill panic, give deadlines or give dire warning.
– Generic salutations like “from IT administrators.”
