Zoom Phone Transition
We recently upgraded our Zoom contract to include Zoom Phone. Over the next few months, this new service will roll out to select employees, allowing us to retire one of our aging, unsupported phone systems.
While many employees will continue using their traditional desk phones, others will transition to the new Zoom software solution. If your phone setup is impacted by this change, we will contact you directly with more information as the service rolls out.
Zoom Meeting License Updates
As part of our new contract, we must be judicious in assigning full Zoom Meeting licenses to manage costs effectively. On Friday, Aug. 28, we will move users who have not hosted a Zoom Meeting over the past year to a “Basic” license. We will also begin requiring all users to use Single Sign On (SSO) to log in.
If you are transitioned to a Basic license, please note:
- Joining Meetings: You can still join any Zoom meeting without restrictions.
- Hosting Meetings: You can still host meetings, but they will be limited to 40 minutes in duration.
- Requesting a Reversal: If you are assigned a Basic license but absolutely require a full license for your work, please contact Brian Rellinger at barellin@owu.edu.
Google Meet: A Free Alternative
As a reminder, all OWU employees have full access to Google Meet. This platform is a great alternative that works well for most users and does not have any meeting duration limits.
