The Strand Theatre will host a special evening June 17, celebrating the launch of the book “America’s Hometown Theaters: Please Remain Standing,” an exploration of the importance and architectural legacy of hometown theaters.

The event will include a presentation by the book’s author and photographer, Benita VanWinkle, who has documented hometown movie theaters and drive-ins for over 40 years. It will also feature a panel discussion with VanWinkle; Chris Yates, executive director of the Ross Art Museum; David Hejmanowski, history and arts enthusiast, and president of the Strand Theatre and Cultural Arts Association Board; and Michael Hurwitz, author, historian, and technician of America’s opera houses. The panel will be moderated by Nicole Fowles, communications coordinator for the Delaware County District Library.
