Thank you for your positive feedback on the swipe/tap card readers now used to enter OWU’s academic buildings and on our ongoing work to improve campus security. Beginning Feb. 17, we will continue this initiative and, as announced in August, begin replacing all exterior door locks. Here’s what you need to do to be ready for the change:
- Before Feb. 17, ensure that your OWU ID card successfully unlocks academic buildings as expected. You will not be issued a new building key. (Hint: If your ID works to tap and print materials on your new departmental copier, you’re all set! But here is more information to help you determine whether your ID needs to be replaced.)
- After you’ve confirmed that your ID swipe/tap is working, turn in your old brass key to your office’s academic assistant or administrator. (Please turn in your key on/before Feb. 19, by which time all exterior door locks should be changed.)
- Keep and continue to use your current interior office key(s). Facilities is replacing exterior door locks only.
Public Safety officers will continue to have keys and 24/7 access to all academic buildings, but may not be readily available to unlock doors while also patrolling campus. Typically, academic buildings will be open during regular office hours Monday through Friday and locked during off-hours and on weekends. Please do not prop open exterior doors, and always contact Public Safety with security concerns.
Please call or email us if you have questions. Thank you for helping us improve Ohio Wesleyan for everyone. Have a successful semester!
