UC 130: The First-Generation Student Experience (.25 unit course)
Tuesdays at 12:10-1 p.m. (Spring 2026)
- Course Description: This course explores how being a first-generation student shapes college and career experiences, and is designed for students in their first year at OWU. First-gen college students are those for whom no parent/guardian has completed a four-year (Bachelor’s) degree. The course is divided into 3 sections: (1) how class differences affect family, educational, and college experiences; (2) how being a first-gen student shapes life at OWU; and (3) how being a first-gen college graduate shapes career experiences. This course is designed for first-gen students and is taught by a first-gen faculty member from a working-class background. OWU Units: 0.25. Prerequisite(s): First-year status, Instructor Permission. Request permission to register for this course.
