Your Privacy, Your Rights: Understanding FERPA at OWU

Did you know that as an OWU student, you have control over your own academic records? It’s thanks to a federal law called the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), which protects the privacy of your student information.

This law gives you the right to:

  • Inspect and review your education records.
  • Request to amend records that you believe are inaccurate or misleading.
  • Control the disclosure of your records to others, including your parents or family.

If you would like to grant access to your education records to a parent, guardian, or other third party, you must provide your consent.

For a full breakdown of your rights and the easy-to-use form to grant access, please visit the Office of the Registrar’s FERPA page.
