The program will bring the audience on an emotional journey through three centuries of compositions from the 18th to the 21st century.
The Orchestra, under the direction of Deborah Barrett Price, will open with Scott Joplin’s Maple Leaf Rag published in 1899 and featured in the movie The Sting featuring actors Paul Newman and Robert Redford. The program continues with Benjamin Britten’s Simple Symphony, Op. 4, composed in 1933-34 with tunes he composed in his early childhood.
We jump into the 21st century with a premier of the orchestral version of For you, Someday by OWU competition and guitar major, Carlos Coello Escoto. In his words, “The music embodies a mix of nostalgia and anticipation by combining gentle and nostalgic melodies with a sense of hope for the future. This composition is a personal expression of this moment in my life; an invitation for you to join me on this emotional journey.”
We complete the concert with Mozart’s powerful Symphony in G minor, No. 25 composed in 1773 when Mozart was 17 years old and featured in the biographical movie Amadeus.
Come join us in OWU’s acoustically beautiful Gray Chapel on Thursday, Nov. 14 at 8 p.m. for this musical emotional journey through the centuries.
