Unless you’ve opted out, cell phones made after 2012 will sound at 2:20 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4, during a planned national test of the Wireless Emergency Alerts system.
The alerts are used to warn the public about issues ranging from dangerous weather to missing children. In addition to the phone alert, TVs and radios that are turned on will broadcast a test alert at the same time. This is only a test and action is not required.
