OWU ALERT Emergency Messaging System Update

On Tuesday, Ohio Wesleyan tested the OWU ALERT emergency notification system. The test was the first sent to all registered alert recipients using OWU’s new 911Cellular software system.

We are working with the vendor to address a few delivery issues, including a CPS (calls per second) setting that kept some of the voice calls from connecting. Fortunately, the system is redundant in that all OWU ALERT emergency messages are sent as voice, text, email, and app messages. A total of 98.5% of texts, 99.6% of emails, and 92% of all app messages were sent successfully.

If you did not receive an expected text or app message, please take the following steps to verify and, if needed, update your OWU ALERT enrollment information:

  • Students: Ensure that your cell phone number is correct in your official OWU student record. (If you need assistance, contact the Registrar’s Office at registrar@owu.edu.) If you have parents and guardians who wish to receive emergency notifications, they should text the word OWUalertFamily (not case sensitive and no spaces between words) to 58843.
  • Faculty and staff: Ensure that your cell phone number is correct in ADP. If you have partners and spouses who wish to receive emergency notifications, they should text the word OWUalertPartner (not case sensitive and no spaces between words) to 58843.
  • All: If you have not downloaded the CampusShield app, download it now (Android) (iOS) for access to safety systems including OWU ALERT push notifications.

After we have thoroughly reviewed today’s test results, we expect to conduct a second test this semester. We will notify you in advance if this happens. Thank you for your time and attention.
