More information will be coming soon, but Public Safety is in the process now of switching the company that provides our emergency notification software.
Employees and students will remain signed up to receive OWU ALERTs (now via 911Cellular), with emails sent to their OWU email addresses and voice/text messages to their cell phones, as long as OWU has a working cell phone number for them.
With 911Cellular, students no longer will enroll their parents/guardians, and employees no longer will enroll their spouses/partners for OWU ALERT messages.
When the time is right, these groups will be able to enroll and unenroll themselves by texting a designated number. (This will be true for ABM and AVI Fresh staff, too — paper forms no longer will be needed.)
These non-student/non-employee enrollees will receive voice and text messages sent to their cell phones and, instead of email, we will be moving to owu.edu/emergency as a trusted single source of information.
An additional improvement is that international phone numbers now will be supported to receive alerts.
We are finalizing protocols now and will announce soon how these affiliated groups will register. (Those who were part of the previous system will need to re-enroll themselves.)
Please watch your email for more information.
