March 28 @ 7 p.m. – Vogel Lecture: OWU at War

Please join us for the 38th Joseph & Edith Vogel Lecture as our very own Professor Michael W. Flamm presents “OWU at War: Charles Leighton and the Memphis Belle.” Flamm will share his research about Charles Leighton, an OWU chemistry major and football player who enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Forces following the bombing of Pearl Harbor in 1942, serving as the navigator of the renowned B-17 bomber, the Memphis Belle. Eighty years ago, the Memphis Belle safely completed 25 missions over Europe becoming the most famous plane of WWII. This presentation will explore Leighton’s life and honor his service to his country. Of special note, during the event, Ohio Wesleyan plans to present Leighton’s descendants with the OWU diploma he didn’t earn after he choose to leave the university in order to serve his country. We hope to see you there!
