The Performing Arts Department is hosting a New Play Development workshop of Kimberly Belflower and Megan Tabaque’s play, “Only Reason,” from Feb. 25-27. From playwright Kimberly Belflower: “This play is a love letter to fandom. This play celebrates the community that social media provides, and centers the formidable strength of teenagers. This play is what Megan and I needed when we were teenagers.”
The workshop will involve rehearsal with the playwrights on Friday evening, Saturday morning/afternoon, and a brief rehearsal Sunday morning before we have a public staged reading. Meals will be provided for students throughout the weekend. We’ll also have a short workshop to read through the script together before Kimberly and Megan arrive, where you’ll get familiar with the script and learn what to expect from a New Play Development process.
For the audition, you will record yourself reading a short monologue for one or more characters you are interested in performing. You do not need to memorize the material for the audition or for the workshop itself. If you would like to audition for a role or participate as an assistant director, assistant dramaturg, or stage manager, please email me for more information and to access the script. The last day for auditions is February 1, but please let me know if this presents a barrier to your participation.
