Cookbook Analysis Project

This page includes links to and descriptions of the various pedagogical tools that I have developed for the cookbook analysis project in the Food, Culture, and Society course.

Before the project, I brought out a big pile of cookbooks from different eras, genres, and some with provocative titles. The students seem to enjoy choosing from among the various titles, and matching their interests in the class. They then followed the instruction document – which had a range of prompts linking to class content about identity, ideologies, rhetoric, and more. This instruction document can be viewed HERE.

I also gave them access to the project rubric so they knew exactly how they’d be graded.

Enjoy!
