  1. What, in your opinion, are the current important health issues that are directly related to food.
    1. Specifically, what are they, and why are they so important in today’s society?

Obesity- overweightness, excessive fat, a big cause of chronic illnesses and diseases  

Diabetes- insulin intolerance/resistances, leads to a large amount of health issues and dietary necessities

heart diseases- chronic issues with the heart brought upon by bad diets, leading cause of death in America

Hypertension- high blood pressure

2. How, in your opinion, does food impact these problems?

Diabetes, hypertension, and obesity has food as the cause of it, with diets high in sodium and sugar

3. What, in your opinion, are the key components to a healthy diet?

Fruits and vegetables, large variety, whole grains, fiber, limiting processed foods and added sugars, proteins and fats

4. From a health perspective, what is “good” food? What is “bad” food? Use some examples.

Good food: nutrient dense foods

  • Fruits, vegetables, oatmeal

Bad food: Artificial ingredients, processed, empty calories

  • Candy, cookies, french fries, fried foods

5. Considering the advertisements that you selected for today’s class…

  1. Are your selected advertisements effective in addressing the key health issues you mentioned above? Why or why not?
    1. Yes, most of my advertisements were exercise related which is another key component with diets to causing these issues.
    2. Yes, the food advertisements found had “healthy choice” on the box. I.e. cheerios, and all of them had to do with eating well and fighting obesity.
