Giving ’em Health: A Sample Review of “What the Health”

This is a sample review of the film What the Health, for use by students to guide the general format of the reviews I am hoping to see.

Key Aims & Messages

The primary aim of the documentary was……complete rest here. Key messages included.  One important quote from the director was:

Ideologies

This film clearly is promoting the notion that meat consumption is the driving factor for health issues in the USA. Expand more here. In one part of the film, a quote was given that strongly supports this ideology. A person said:

Additionally, the film strongly suggests that meat- and food-producing companies are to blame for these problems.

Many times the film-makers appeal our emotional side, using images like the one below to bring us closer to the animals in the film.

Another storyline were the interviews of public health and medical officials, attempting to gain support for the claims that this film makes about the causes of today’s dietary health crises. One such interview was with Dr. Robert Ratner, M.D., the Chief Scientific and Medical Officer of the American Diabetes Association.  More support here.
