Joyce Tenneson

1945

American (United States)

Most famous for her ethereal portraits of women, Tenneson is interested in portraying the mystery and essence of her subjects. She considers her photographs studies of form imbued with emotion. Her subject matter, as in the case of the flowers on display here, is often pared back and presented against a blank backdrop. This approach is intended to invite viewers to look more closely and deeply at the subject matter and to create a sense of timelessness.
