Donna Ferrato is a female photojournalist who was born in Massachusetts and raised in Lorain, Ohio. She attended Garland College and the Art Institute of California but is greatly self-taught. Over the years, she has viewed the darker side of life, winning awards for her documentation of domestic violence. This work led her to founding a non-profit organization, Domestic Abuse Awareness. Currently, she is interested in photographing neighborhoods in New York City. She has received numerous awards, participated in over 500 exhibitions, and has published several books of her photos. She works to reveal issues that often are hidden behind closed doors.
