Alen MacWeeney

Allen MacWeeney began his career as a press photographer at age sixteen. He studied at the Alexey Brodovitch's Design Lab for a year. At first he worked as Richard Avedon’s (fashion and portrait photographer) assistant in Paris and then moved on to NYC. He has been a commercial photographer working at the New York Times, TIME-Life books, Harper’s Bazaar, Mademoiselle, Esquire, LIFE. Allen MacWeeney’s work is mostly black and white emotive portraits of people and animals plus an array of landscapes. He continues to work as a photographer but has interests in Irish folklore, traditional literature and music. His work is found in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the George Eastman House, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Art Institute of Chicago, and others.
