This cookbook is not specifically written by a chef but an American celebrity most well known as a musician. Known for having a good time with a big personality Sammy Hagar alongside Josh Sens publish his cookbook “Are We Having Fun Yet? The Cooking & Partying Handbook.” This cookbook not only offers party food and alcohol recipes but also humorous and entertaining stories.
Sammy Hagar also known as The Red Rocker is an American rock vocalist, guitarist, businessman, and author. He is probably best known for being the lead vocalist of the rock band Van Halen for a decent amount of time before exiting the band. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Van Halen in March of 2007. Hagar also owns his own alcohol brand, his iconic Cabo Wabo Tequila and Sammy’s Beach Bar Rum. Along with performing Sammy has the passion for traveling the world, partying, and making and eating different foods. This lead him to publish his cookbook containing over 50 food and drink recipes along with pictures and stories of Hagar’s cooking memories from growing up as a child, to present day.
He has piled all of his interests into one big and very unique cookbook titled the Cooking and partying Handbook. The cookbook does more than just give step by step instructions on how to cook a certain dish. The author goes into great detail on how he found the recipe and the story behind it and what it means to him. Almost every dish in this book comes with a unique story that very well fits the author’s personality. Many pictures are included within the book of not just the food but where the recipe came from.
The cookbook was published in 2013 so a pretty modern time period for the same kind of partying we see today among adults who probably are more likely to read this. Especially the generation that grew up listening to his music would be very interested in this cookbook.
From what I have gotten from this cookbook it most definitely seems it would a appeal to an adult male audience. Not just because of the certain types of food or the partying mood to it but the language that the author uses. There is a very large amount of swearing and slang talk that a male audience might be more attracted to. Also a lot of alcohol references also appeal to the man along with rock music. Along with food stories Sammy does go into detail about his days with Van Halen that a fan of the music may find very interesting. Alongside some of the drink recipes he shares some of the wild nights that occurred due to it. Some of the food recipes in this book I feel like a lot of people who aren’t interested in partying would really enjoy a handful of recipes this book has to offer but would probably not like how the recipe is written.
The author goes out of his way to use very authentic utensils and ingredients to keep the recipe has original as possible but it does look like basic utensils and and ingredients will work just fine. He uses these more for the story rather than taste. He wants everybody to be able to make these dishes for parties the audience is attending so this cookbook is for any man trying to make a good impression at a party.
If you’re looking for a cookbook that is healthy this one is not for you. His main focus here is taste with little or no regards to health. Although this book isn’t healthy the author truly appreciates the recipes and food he has put into this book. He appreciates the foodways and where these dishes come from and he makes that very known in his cookbook here. An adventurous man writes an adventurous cookbook about really good party food. Many famous well known chefs and food celebrities have given this book very good reviews. A quote from Guy Fieri sums this book up very well saying “When a guy writes a hit song called ‘Mas Tequila,’ you know he can throw a serious party. And after touring all over the world for the last 30 years, my brutha Sammy Hagar has gained a serious appreciation for great food. So, there’s nobody better than the Red Rocker himself to bring you ‘The Best of Both Worlds’ and to show you that ‘There’s Only One Way To Rock Cook.’”
