Classes start up tomorrow, so naturally I decided to spend the past week wandering around the city to get familiar and go visit some ancient ruins 140 kilometers away in Co. Kerry, near the small town of Caherdaniel.<\/p>\n<p>Staigue Stone fort is a decent-sized round stone fort of a local lord, around 30 meters across, built in early first century. \u00a0It was an impressive sight, and certainly worth the meager one-euro entrance fee, although there wasn&#8217;t much information about the fort on location (only a small sign with one paragraph in Irish and one in English).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-_8sqqn9bOUw\/V7nmzaAKAqI\/AAAAAAAAAZs\/N7SP7mmPtO8vLfexTDpH_J88r51r8Hi9wCK4B\/s1600\/IMG_0617.JPG\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-_8sqqn9bOUw\/V7nmzaAKAqI\/AAAAAAAAAZs\/N7SP7mmPtO8vLfexTDpH_J88r51r8Hi9wCK4B\/s400\/IMG_0617.JPG\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-8x2bg900M3w\/V7nmqHUd1vI\/AAAAAAAAAZk\/RH8pkjmh1xouJmBDAaeREUaeo-V_SLqKgCK4B\/s400\/IMG_0605.JPG\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The second stone fort, Caherdaniel Stone Fort, is smaller and I had wished the tourism websites would let me know it&#8217;s in the middle of a farm that you aren&#8217;t allowed on, so you can&#8217;t actually get to the fort itself. \u00a0Hopefully this isn&#8217;t the start of a trend.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-NNr76zMsbKI\/V7nnJX0wcRI\/AAAAAAAAAZ0\/8FcHWW91TAUKOZWLSxVjAM7YlQUFD7_rgCK4B\/s1600\/IMG_0698.JPG\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-NNr76zMsbKI\/V7nnJX0wcRI\/AAAAAAAAAZ0\/8FcHWW91TAUKOZWLSxVjAM7YlQUFD7_rgCK4B\/s320\/IMG_0698.JPG\" width=\"402\" height=\"226\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Last week I flew into Cork, where I&#8217;ll be spending the semester studying at UCC.
