Series dates: 1915-1916
Size: 5.5″ x 7.75″

Houghton Mifflin’s New Poetry Series was the result of an effort by Boston poet Amy Lowell. The series published several of Lowell’s imagist anthologies and Lowell had significant influence over the titles that were eventually included in the series.

The series reached eighteen titles, all published in 1915-1916. Most titles were published in the series for the first time. A few reprints were issued through the 1930s. The series, each title priced at .75 cents, was introduced in a brief article in the Review of Reviews (vol. 51, January-June 1915):

The New Poetry Series is bound in boards with a dust jacket attached to the spine. The jackets are common to the series and include the series name on the front of the jacket. The front jacket flap is blank. This copy of Grace Hazard Conkling‘s Afternoons of April was published in October of 1915 and is Conkling’s first book.

The back of the jacket and rear flaps were blank.
