Sarah Hasted merges her background in painting, drawing, printmaking and photography in her mixed media collages that play illusively with both surface and memory. Utilizing found images and text, zeroxes, photographs, and layers of paint, she creates one of a kind pieces that are ethereal and unworldly. The textured overlays of paper and paint remind us of another time, place, or idea.
Ms. Hasted's work gently pushes the boundaries of the straight photography world while still maintaining the integrity of the photographic image.
Sarah's one of a kind pieces are produced within the context of a "series" of works. One of her major figurative series is a body of work that deals with the meaning of modern-day "angels". Other series have focused on remnants of music scores and notations, still lives, and personal space.
Sarah has also produced straight black and white prints. She was Joan Myers assistant from 1992 through 1995.
