I\u2019m black and white, I\u2019m an 8-track left over after a garage sale that couldn\u2019t be sold <\/span><\/p>\n for a dime, I\u2019m sitting at a desk writing on an old typer <\/span><\/p>\n with a sticky Q key, listening to an old Dylan record on vinyl, <\/span><\/p>\n thinking I haven\u2019t heard from my buddy Matthew in weeks, <\/span><\/p>\n remembering he\u2019s off getting married,<\/span><\/p>\n married in Thailand,\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n wishing I could be there<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n the world marble-small for guys like him. We root for new couples, <\/span><\/p>\n we admire old ones, we mourn the couples in-between, stumbling<\/span><\/p>\n Novocain-numb thru life, trying to figure out if they\u2019re sad or not on a therapist\u2019s<\/span><\/p>\n couch or a bartender\u2019s stool. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n I\u2019m lamenting my friend now in a country I couldn\u2019t find on a map. <\/span><\/p>\n I\u2019m drinking Sierra Nevada beers, the same kind he and Scott and I drank<\/span><\/p>\n last summer, talking about Kim Addonizio and Denis Johnson at 3 am, <\/span><\/p>\n in a room lit mostly by lamppost glow from the street outside. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n I\u2019m snapped out of reverie when my ex-wife calls. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n I\u2019m foundling ambivalent, these conversations always end in second guessing, <\/span><\/p>\n they loom fog heavy, me yellowing like an old photo<\/span><\/p>\n of Frank O\u2019Hara, and like him, <\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n I\u2019m thinking about my failed relationships <\/span><\/p>\n just as Matt starts a new life in one.
