A glass sits atop the<\/p>\n<p>nightstand, water beads up and<\/p>\n<p>slides down the glass. A white<\/p>\n<p>plastic stick births two pink<\/p>\n<p>lines, pink as the fresh moon,<\/p>\n<p>the curling limbs of starfish,<\/p>\n<p>unfurling like a blushing hand,<\/p>\n<p>tulip lips. Understanding, as all women<\/p>\n<p>do, we are late, our fingers click like<\/p>\n<p>razors, clawing for keys, and madly we<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>scrape along the bleached red<\/p>\n<p>doors of the Honda. We stare<\/p>\n<p>at clocks, dashboards, watches,<\/p>\n<p>because we&#8217;re late, falling<\/p>\n<p>down the rabbit hole, a black heel<\/p>\n<p>caught in spongy earth, breaking<\/p>\n<p>through the bed of tulips. The soil<\/p>\n<p>stuck, crumbling into heels,<\/p>\n<p>creased between toes. In order to<\/p>\n<p>undo what we have done, we must<\/p>\n<p>leave black footprints on the pale rose<\/p>\n<p>linoleum. We cut our hands, fill them<\/p>\n<p>with crushed petals and starfish arms,<\/p>\n<p>chips of the good china and dirt. The<\/p>\n<p>lines dissolve in reverse, a fun house<\/p>\n<p>mirror trick, unveiling intent and purpose<\/p>\n<p>beyond what we thought we<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Brit Graham &nbsp; We follow, unaware of the things born to us, luck, comets, pocket lint.
